Fish prices decreased by 12% in October

Prices of fish in the Central Market decreased by 12 percent in October compared to September, according to the monthly report released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
Prices also saw 12 percent decline in October compared to the same period last year, says the report which included prices of vegetables, fruits, fish, meat and fodder at the Central Market.
The most popular fish variety kingfish (Chanad) declined 21 percent from QR35 per kg in October last year to QR27.5 per kg in October 2016. Its price last month compared to the previous month, however, was unchanged.
The price of Hamour has fallen 27 percent from QR65 per kg to QR47.5 per kg over a month and 23 percent over a year as it recorded QR62 per kg in October last year.
Shari (big) witnessed a decline of 27 percent from QR20.5 per kg to QR15 per kg over a month. However, the price of small Shari remained unchanged over a year at QR9 per kg. The biggest decline was recorded in the price of Qatari small Khabat fish at 39 percent from QR37.5 to QR23 over a moth. However, the big Qatari fuskar fish witnessed 45 percent surge in price from QR10 in September to QR14.5 in October, said the report.
Twenty-three types of fishes have been included in the study, prices of most of which declined significantly month-by-month and year-by-year. Very few fish variety had price increase, most of which witnessed very marginal hike during the period of study.
Prices of vegetables, on the other hand, fell by 11 percent over past year and seven percent in a month. Price of Qatari cucumbers decreased from QR3.5 per kg in September to QR2 per kg in October this year, however it was sold at QR4 in October, 2015. Saudi cucumber and zucchini (Kusa) recorded decline in prices from QR4 to QR3 over a month.
Prices of Jordanian tomato, Chinese garlic and Indian onion increased upto QR1 per kg over a month.
Prices of fruits declined two percent year-on-year and four percent month-on-month. Prices of Egyptian guava and Turkish pear declined from QR8 in September to QR7 per kg in October this year. However, prices of Turkish pear and Egyptian guava were recorded at QR10 and QR7.5 per kg.
