He was received at Al Jazeera headquarters by Al Jazeera Media Network Acting Director-General Dr Mostefa Souag, Al Jazeera English Acting Managing Director Giles Trendle, senior management, friends and colleagues.
Baher said: “I’m happy to be here so that I can thank all my colleagues who stood behind me throughout my ordeal.” Dr Souag said: “Al Jazeera network appreciates the courage Baher had shown during his arrest and sentence. In the name of honest journalism, he has made huge sacrifices personally and professionally. Baher is free but now also an ambassador for press freedom and fearless journalism.” Baher said: “I can’t stop thinking of fellow journalists still behind bars. I promise every one of them that I’ll do my best to reunite them with their loved ones. A new phase of the fight for press freedom starts tomorrow.”
