DOHA: The East India Company yesterday announced the launch of a tea tasting service at its fine foods retail store in Lagoona Mall.
One of its most popular event bookings in its London Mayfair branch, tea tasting is ideal for beginners and connoisseurs introducing exclusive white, green, oolong and black tea, along with insights into the history, flavour notes and tasting techniques of each tea, said a statement.
To inaugurate the event, the company’s Tea Master, Lalith Lenadora, who has over 25 years’ experience in the tea industry, arrived from London. Each tea in the company’s range is selected by Lenadora whose experience working in some of the Sri Lankan tea estates has helped him develop understanding of the seasonal qualities of tea.
Lenadora said, “I am delighted that our tea tasting service has been brought to Qatar for people to enjoy. As the company has a direct relationship with tea estates we work with, our teas are some of the freshest available and these events give the opportunity to learn and appreciate some of the world’s finest and rare teas.”
“Tea lessons are ideal for corporate networking event, client appreciation evening, team-building, or a gathering of friends.
“During tea tasting events participants were able to savour rare white varieties such as Golden Tips; subtle green teas such as Dragonwell and Buttery Oolongs from Taiwan; rich black teas such as Rainforest Lumbini and Darjeeling First Flush, as well as romantic flowering teas such as Sacred Heart and Thousand Year Red. It is our way of showing that there is a lot more to tea than what meets the eye,” added Hanan El Basha, Managing Director, Qatar Franchisee.
The East India Company carries a curated selection of fine teas and coffees; artisan sweet and savoury biscuits; an exquisite chocolate range; and flavourful jams and marmalades. The range also includes its hand-crafted Bone China and Porcelain for tea and coffee. Unique in appearance and rich in history, each piece is painted by master craftsmen using mineral paints and 18 carat gold.
Since its creation in 1600 by The Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth I, the influence of the company has been great. It transformed Britain’s dining tables through the introduction of exotic ingredients and flavours and changed the world’s tastes, its thinking, and its people.
The company has marked its foundation with a spirit of Remarkable Connections. It continues to explore the world to surprise and delight customers with inspirational tastes crafted from the finest ingredients the world has to offer — it remains a quintessentially British brand with influences from diverse cultures.
