Khaled Al Jamaat
Doha: Qatar’s Khaled Al Jamaat yesterday left for Georgia to participate in the World Chess Championship for age groups, starting tomorrow.
The tournament, which will held according to the Swiss system of 11 rounds, will see more than 170 male and female players in action until September 28.
Youssef Muhammad Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the Qatar Chess Federation, said Al Jamaat’s participation in the major event will give him valuable experience and understanding of international standards.
He hoped a good show from the young Qatari player after his impressive performance in the recently-held Abu Dhabi Championship.
“We are looking to increase our players’ participation in international events. I hope that our players excel and achieve good results in these competitions to collect points and improve their rankings. Our target is to prepare Qatari team comprising players, who are capable of doing good in major competitions,” said Al Mutawa.
