The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) grounds will soon have food trucks offering visitors an array of delectable cuisines offered by six local food operators.

Six local businesses, representing some of the best new arrivals on the Qatar food truck scene, have been selected to join the growing supply chain of Qatar Museums. The announcement marks the latest example of the successful long-term partnership between Qatar Museums (QM) and Qatar Development Bank (QDB) to support the development of SMEs and the private sector in Qatar.

The six winners will host their first visitors on MIA grounds in the coming weeks, just in time for the start of the busy fall exhibition season. Additional food operators will be selected for future QM sites in the coming months.

They include Doha Bus Café to utilise the popular Doha hop-on-off bus as the venue for its operation, which will be located at MIA Park, offering a delicious Qatari fusion food and beverages menu; the Coffee-Bike which will offer own rich tasting organic coffee, fresh juices, healthy smoothies, in addition to signature sandwiches and desserts and Dareen Sweets with its selection of sweet and salty biscuits, cakes and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

There will also be Ice Rolls which will be the first Qatari concept offering customers rolled ice cream in cups known on the streets of Thailand; Burger and Burmait will offer a selection of authentic American food with a local twist such as handmade American style burgers created using local ingredients; and Poori & Karak offering a wide range of Indian chapati, poori and parati sandwiches.

The partnership between QM and QDB was launched earlier this year, calling on SMEs across Qatar in the fields of hospitality, food and beverage, merchandising, retail and creative products and design to develop and submit business ideas for the chance to join QM and QDB’s growing supply chain.

Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, CEO and Special Advisor to the Chairperson at QM, said: “It is with great pleasure that we announce the first six local SMEs that have been selected to join our growing supply chain. Each application we received was unique and truly impressive, proving Qatari entrepreneurs are ready to create a positive impact on the local economy. We would also like to thank QDB for their support with this initiative, which perfectly reflects our mission to develop, promote and sustain the cultural sector in Qatar through a variety of initiatives.”

Abdul Aziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa, CEO of QDB, said: “At QDB, we are continuously working with our partners to help strengthen the economic system for the SME sector. We are pleased to see the results from our partnership with QM come to life. QM and QDB have full confidence in local suppliers and strongly believe that growth and diversification of the national economy through the support of local entrepreneurs and SMEs is vital in achieving economic growth.”

The partnership between QM and QDB forms part of a nationwide strategy to promote and accelerate the development of the private sector in Qatar, and falls in line with the economic pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
