Qatar participated in the Regional Ministerial Meeting of Environmental Cooperation for a Better Future that was held in the Iranian Capital Tehran with the objective of boosting regional cooperation to overcome the common climate and environmental challenges.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani led the state of Qatar’s delegation to the meeting.
In addition, the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change confirmed during the meeting that the state of Qatar devoted a particular attention to the environment issue and its factors, pointing out that the state of Qatar and stemming from its national vision 2030 managed to reduce transboundary pollutants to ensure full regional protection for marine and terrestrial species, in addition to playing effective role in fostering the strenuous efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
In his remarks delivered during the meeting, H E Dr Faleh bin Nasser pointed out to the Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) through which the foundation was laid to overcome the current and future environmental challenges, in addition to establishing action and governance plan to comprehensively address these problems. He added that the meeting can potentially represent a break station and an opportunity to reach a regional action plan that patently determines the tracks of dealing with the environmental issues facing the regional territory to further explore the mitigation measures.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change underscored the significance of the Meeting of Environmental Cooperation for a Better Future, because it evidently offers a vital opportunity to rally regional and international efforts to reach effective and practical solutions, in addition to taking the correct decisions to achieve the goals of overcoming a myriad of environmental challenges and mitigate the impacts of climate change in the middle east region. He emphasized the importance of supporting the efforts in achieving the goals of this meeting, stressing at the same time on the importance of deepening the actual synergetic efforts and regional cooperation to further take the required action and measures to overcome the environmental challenges facing the region.
Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani pointed out to the numerous unprecedented challenges that are facing the world, including pollution, loss of biological diversity and climate change that have unequivocally led to the sudden increase of dust and sandstorms in the region.
The meeting was attended by Environment Ministers from the countries of the Middle East and Africa, in addition to representatives of the United Nations Environment Program, and a wide range of non-governmental organizations and academia.
