Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) continues to strengthen its leadership in occupational health and safety, achieving more than 5,460,209 injury-free work hours as of April 2026 on the Qatar University Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences Building Project. This milestone reflects the Authority’s commitment to implementing the highest standards of risk management and worker protection, particularly in high-risk activities, including confined space operations.
As part of these efforts, the project’s Health and Safety Team continues to conduct specialized training programs and emergency simulation exercises for confined space entry operations, which are considered among the most critical activities on construction sites. These initiatives are carried out in accordance with the Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS 2014) and international best practices.
The programmes focus on enhancing the preparedness of site teams and strengthening their ability to respond effectively to emergencies through hands-on training and close coordination with the project’s medical and emergency response teams.
This approach reinforces a strong culture of prevention and promotes the highest standards of workplace safety.
Ashghal also implements a comprehensive confined space risk management system that includes work permit procedures, detailed risk assessments, air quality and oxygen level testing, verification of the absence of hazardous gases, and the provision of ventilation systems, gas detection devices, rescue equipment, and personal protective equipment. Operational conditions are continuously monitored throughout the execution of works to ensure maximum safety.
This integrated approach reflects Ashghal’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, maintaining a safe and sustainable working environment, and fostering a strong health and safety culture across all its projects in line with international best practices and the highest standards of project excellence.
