Doha: Walking Football Federation Qatar organised the first Ghana Independence Day Walking Football Cup 2023 at Al Jazeera Academy football field. The tournament was attended by the Walking Football Federation President Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed and the Ghanaian Ambassador to Qatar H E Mohamed Nurudeen Ismaila.
Walking Football is one of the fastest growing sports concepts in the world. Its no tackle, fast passes, no high ball, fast walk, safe game is attracting a lot of communities to the game.
Uganda walking football team shocked the Sri Lankan team Casemoria 3-1 to win the tournament. Kenya walking football team beat the Ghanaian team 2-1.
Ambassador Ismaila, Al Sayed, and LuLu International Regional Operations Manager Simon Alexander presented the prizes to the finalists.
Player of the tournament medal went to Douglas Mayanga of the Ugandan team.
Best goalkeeper medal was won by Sri Lankan Mohamed Taqi and the fair play medal was given to Nigerian Andrew Chukwudi.
