Doha: Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed Al Thani yesterday made an inspection tour to Environmental Laboratory of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department, as well as the Radioactive Laboratory of the Radiation Protection Department.
He was briefed by the officials about the working mechanisms and modern equipment in both laboratories, which contributed to the quality of work and the production of research results in an accurate and distinct manner.
During his tour of the environmental laboratory section of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department, the Minister learned about the latest devices and equipment that operate in accordance with the highest international standards, and the efforts to preserve the local environment with its great animal and plant diversity.
The laboratory researchers also provided an overview of the scientific and environmental research they are working on to conduct analyses of samples for marine and terrestrial monitoring and control programmes.
They also explained the laboratory’s contribution to conducting special research to preserve the life of threatened wild and marine animals and the challenges they face in the local environment and to identify all types of pollution that pose a threat to those creatures.
The officials at the laboratory explained the processes of development and continuous training of the laboratory staff, which include training courses and lectures that include access to the latest developments in the science of environmental research on the international scene.
The Minister also learned during the tour about the plans and programmes of the laboratory during the coming period that serves environmental research and climate change.
He was also briefed on the procedures and steps of the laboratory and its affiliated laboratories to obtain international accreditation, which contributed to producing all laboratory and analytical results correctly, accurately and reliably, which contributed to the ministry overcoming all challenges, preserving the local environment and achieving its national goals.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change inspected the laboratory units, listened explanation from those in charge of the work, and was briefed on the laboratory’s preparations in terms of available modern devices and equipment and all the services provided by the laboratory in monitoring all components of the environment radioactively.
He was also briefed on the progress of work in the personal radiation dose measurement unit for workers in the fields of using ionising radiation and various nuclear materials such as medicine, industry and agriculture in order to ensure radiation safety and the quality of the work environment.
