Qatar Olympic Committee celebrates its 43rd Anniversary

Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) yesterday marked the 43rd anniversary of its founding on March 14, 1979.

The QOC has played an important role in raising sports awareness in nation and developing Olympic movement in accordance with principles of Olympic Charter and as a result, the Qatari sports movement has reached new heights over the last 43 years and achieved a huge number of achievements including the two gold medals and bronze medal, team Qatar athletes won at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Doha has also hosted and delivered some major sports events to become the sports capital of the region in line of the QOC vision “To become a leading nation in bringing the world together through sustainable sport development”

The QOC has been always keen to keep up with the development of sports movement around the world by organizing different types of training programs to develop the skills of its employees and enrich their professional experiences.

These programs come in light of the QOC’s strategic goal to create an ideal environment for attracting, developing and maintaining the best talents and expertise.

Moreover, the competence program aims at training national cadres of the QOC to prepare them to assume senior supervisory positions and become alternative leaders to maintain proper functioning of the QOC operations.

The QOC also holds “Talent Management Program” which aims to develop a database for the second grade to ensure that the supervisory functions approved within the organizational structure of QOC are secured, to promote concepts of excellence, to motivate all its staff to participate in them, to encourage positive competition among them and to develop their creativity, which reflect positively on institutional performance.

The QOC training agenda also includes “Cadres Program” which helps develop the specialized skills of sports administrators and prepare the young Qatari cadres to be able to manage local, regional and international sports events.

To strengthen its relationship with the other entities in Qatar, the QOC signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Armed Forces to develop sport in the country. 

The QOC also signed another MoU with Doha Institute for Graduate Studies to train its senior officials, and an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to boost their common efforts in the fields of physical and sports activities.

The QOC has also signed a partnership agreement with Msheireb Properties to strengthen the cooperation between the two organizations in several areas including sports, institutional and community fields.

On the celebration of QOC’s journey and achievements, the QOC Secretary General H E Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain reaffirmed that the QOC is keen, as per the directives of its President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, to improve internal structure and to create the ideal work environment in line with Qatar 2030 National Vision.

Al Buenain also thanked the QOC employees for their efforts as they are the driving force behind all accomplishments that QOC has achieved over the past years.

For her part, Mrs. Maryam Mohamed Al Kuwari, Director of the QOC Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department said that developing the employees is a priority for the QOC as the human resources development is the secret behind the success of any organisation.

Al Kuwari also thanked QOC President Sheikh Joaan for his commitment to develop and improve the work environment at the QOC and the great achievements it has accomplished over the recent years.
