A cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the 20th anniversary of City Center Doha led by Aamal Company Chairman, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Aamal Company CEO and Managing Director Sheikh Mohamed bin Faisal Al Thani, along with City Center Director Baris Sezen and Marketing Manager Iyad Emad Hudaib.
Doha: Qatar’s first Grand Mall and leading shopping destination, City Center Doha celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday. A traditional cake-cutting ceremony was held led by Aamal Company Chairman, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Aamal Company CEO and Managing Director Sheikh Mohamed bin Faisal Al Thani, along with City Center Director Baris Sezen and Marketing Manager Iyad Emad Hudaib.
City Center Doha will host 20-day programme and activities where the public can join and win over 200 prizes including an iPhone, PlayStation 5, staycation, and vouchers, among others.
In a message, Chairman Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani said: “We noticed great and unexpected purchase power in Doha when our shops opened. At that time, City Center’s structure was built at the highest and best standards in the Gulf region.”
Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had inaugurated the mall two decades ago. “As he opened the mall, that was a big day for us, as tens of thousands of people, or even more have attended the opening. We’ve probably exceeded 100,000 people. It was a special day, some shops ran out of stock in a day, two or three,” the Chairman added.
He also pointed out that “today, people across the world come to shop in Qatar. Malls represent entertainment points and tourism, people visit them to take a stroll, shop and dine-in. They’re not only limited to shopping, they have many things to offer.”
Moreover, he guaranteed that City Center Doha will “maintain its market-leading position as we always aim to deliver the best to our community and beloved country.”
Meanwhile, CEO and Managing Director Sheikh Mohamed bin Faisal Al Thani, said: “Today marks a special occasion for us and for Qatar’s retail sector. Since its opening in 2001, City Center Doha has added great value to Qatar’s business landscape and has been the catalyst for the development of the West Bay area, Doha’s premium business district. City Center Doha is now a beautiful space that has attracted top regional and international retailers to Qatar, boosted the job market and supported the local community.”

For this year alone, the mall opened 15 new restaurants, a new extension on the second floor is also seen with easy access to adjoining hotels including Marriott Marquis, JW Marriott, and Rotana City Center. An outdoor area called “Soho Square” has also been constructed located at the mall front which features premium coffee shops, restaurants, outdoor seating overlooking the new fountain.
More retail shops are also expected to open the following year. Also in 2022, it will open a Gold Souq Market where new gold shops in Qatar, Oman, UAE, among others are coming. City Center Doha boasts more than 260 shops, 85 restaurants, Mini Golf and Fun City.
