Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has announced today that they will build 18 new parks across the country and also a habitat for pandas.

Qatar will be the first country in the region to house pandas. Ashghal will build the state-of-the-art modern habitat with all facilities for the pandas, which are expected to come from China.

In August the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) had invited tenders for the construction of a panda enclosure at the Al Khor Zoo.

“Nine major projects have been approved in the 2021 annual budget. The major projects include a shelter for panda, 18 new parks, waste segregation plant in Al Khor and developing animal farm complexes (locally called Al Adhab),” said Director of Projects and Development Department at MME, Dr. Eng Abdullah Nasser Al Kaabi.

Dr. Al Kaabi was speaking in ‘An Open Meeting With An Official’ programme organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at the headquarters of the Projects and Development Department.

Other major projects which were approved in the new budget include upgrading MME laboratories with advanced equipment, infrastructure development of a recycling plant in Al Afjah, constructing a new sanitary landfill in Mesaieed in addition to rehabilitating old landfills, beautification of roadsides and constructing windbreaks using perennial trees as a buffer to block sandstorms.
