Doha: The Ministry of Transport and Communications is at an advanced stage of its "Park and Ride" Project - MOTC's Public Bus Infrastructure Program, a statement said.
"Park and Ride" provides free parking spaces adjacent to Doha Metro stations at four new locations in Al Wakra, Al Qassar, Lusail and Education City to encourage vehicle owners to use the public transportation system to and from their destinations in less time and at a lower cost.
“This will help further improve the services on public roads and at major intersections due to smoother traffic flow, less traffic congestion and less carbon emissions. It also adds a significant enhancement to Qatar's public transportation network and Doha Metro services for citizens, residents, visitors and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans,” the statement added.
MOTC has already completed project works in Al Wakra and the free parking spaces have been used already during the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup Championship. Works at the three other locations are scheduled to complete in Q1 of 2020.
“The "Park and Ride" Project is another example of the considerable attention MOTC pays to the modern, sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation systems. MOTC is continuously working to improve public transit services and increase ridership over the coming years. For this to happen, MOTC provides high-quality transportation services, modern parking facilities that are strategically distributed across the country and accessible by everyone easily and affordably,” the statement concluded.
