Doha: Air Cairo, Egypt’s low-fare airline, has opened its office in Doha, giving more options for passengers looking to travel Egypt from Qatar. Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK) Travel and Tourism will be the General Sales Agent (GSA) of Air Cairo in Qatar.
Sheikh Nawaf Nasser bin Khaled Al Thani, Chairman of Nasser Bin Khaled & Sons Holding; Hussein Sherif, Chairman of Air Cairo and other officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking on the sideline of the inauguration ceremony, Hussein Sherif said that the opening of this office shows that Air Cairo is expanding in Qatar market. Talking to The Peninsula, he said that Air Cairo has signed a code-share agreement with Egypt Air, which will help passengers travelling from Qatar to Egypt and vice-versa.
“We are in codeshare with Egypt Air, which will be implemented shortly, so that the passengers travelling from Doha to Cairo can return from Alexandria or Sohag, or from Assiut, and vice versa. So, this will give more opportunities for passengers who are targeting Cairo and they want to visit, for instance, Alexandria, and instead of going back to Cairo to return, they can travel again to Doha from Alexandria,” explained Sherif.
“Opening of this office is a sign that we are going to expand in this market- between Qatar and Egypt,” he added.
Flights of Air Cairo provide other options to those who want to go to Egypt. The low-cost carrier operates two flights a week from Doha which is increased to three flights per week to meet high demand. Air Cairo may increase flight frequency from Doha going forward.
“Currently we are operating with limited frequencies. We are operating two and sometimes we upgrade it to three frequencies per week but we are targeting a daily frequency between Doha and Egypt,” he said.
Air Cairo operates flights between southern parts of Egypt. He expects frequencies to increase going forward after the further easing of COVID-19 related precautions imposed by countries.
