MANILA: The Philippines President Benigno Aquino III will embark upon a two-day State visit to South Korea on October 17 and 18, the Philippines News Agency said Monday, quoting an official.
Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Raul Hernandez, speaking to media here, said, "This will be the president's first meeting with South Korea's President Park Geun-hye whose term began last February."
President Aquino and President Park will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on defence, specifically on possible exchange visits of military personnel, he said.
"There are an existing talks about South Korea helping us with some military materials like for example ships, helicopters and some rubber boats.
"We are trying to improve and acquire more military equipment not only from South Korea but also from other allies."
"We believe that South Korea could help us in the upgrading of our armed forces," he added. (QNA)
