DOHA: Qatar University will open for the new academic year today with 3,200 new students, of whom more than 70 percent are females and a nearly equal number, Qataris.
The newly enrolled students include 2,232 Qataris and 2,286 females. Of the total 936 male students, 562 are Qataris, the Qatar News Agency said yesterday.
Qataris constitute about 70 percent of the new students while Qatari females (1,670) constitute more than 73 percent of the total female students. Females including foreigners account for more than 71 percent of the total new students.
The total number of students at QU has reached 18,000, with a significant growth over the past three years. The new students have been selected from more than 7,000 applicants based on a strict admission criteria, QNA said quoting a university official.
Qataris have been given priority in admission and no eligible Qatari candidate has been left out. The Peninsula
