DOHA: Three of the 18 workers injured in an accident at a construction site at Lusail City on Thursday evening are still in hospital “under medical observation”.
The other 15 were discharged after treatment on the same night, the Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LRDC) said in a statement yesterday.
The Peninsula was the first to report the collapse of the steel structure of a bridge which was being readied for concrete work in the upcoming city.
The LRDC, which is responsible for the development of the project, said the company was trying to ascertain the cause of the accident, with concerned authorities.
The construction workers, mostly Nepalese, were injured when the steel structure caved in.
“Eighteen of our colleagues were injured. Our medical team on site immediately attended to them and accompanied them to hospital. Fifteen received treatment and were discharged last night. Three remain under medical observation,” said the statement.
“The cause of the accident is being investigated under the supervision of LRDC, in collaboration with MIDMAC Contracting and authorities,” it added.
“Both CEOs of Qatari Diar and LRDC visited our injured colleagues yesterday at hospital and offered them needed support.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their families. We are providing all necessary support to those affected,” the statement added.
