Doha: Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation, organises its training programme, the second edition of ‘Himtak Maana’ (Show Your Zeal with Us) for the volunteers of the association from July 24 to August 11.
The programme aims at integrating new volunteers with the old and increasing their knowledge of diabetes and how to plan effective programmes that contribute to raising awareness about diabetes and prevention. The programme is sponsored by Dolphin Energy Limited.
The programme is a competitive challenge among groups of volunteers, each group planning to implement a diabetes programme and the planning period lasts two days, followed by two weeks of implementation, with the programme to be implemented over a period of only one day during the implementation period.
In this programme, groups of volunteers compete to implement diabetes programmes over two days, followed by a two-week implementation period with the programme being executed over one day during the implementation period. A group of 60 volunteers of different ages and nationalities registered exclusively with the Qatar Diabetes Association are enrolled in the programme.
A selection of certified trainers in Qatar will train volunteers in various workshops before the competition begins, such as planning and implementing events, dealing with the public, first aid, and diabetes and nutrition workshops.
Volunteers’ initiatives will be evaluated at the end of the programme based on various criteria, such as how well they spread diabetes awareness, the quality of their ideas and their implementation, and their use of social media. Certificates and awards will be presented to the winners.
Wadha Al Marri, Volunteer Coordinator of Qatar Diabetes Association, said, “Our volunteers form an important part of our programmes, such as their participation in diabetes camps, assistance in awareness campaigns, and annual diabetes walks. Through this programme, we are keen to enhance the culture of volunteerism in terms of providing training to them to gain experience and skills so that they can perform their tasks more efficiently, while providing the necessary resources to complete their work without difficulties, and on top of that, motivating them to create their own initiatives that develop the spirit of belonging to us and to society.”
