Doha: After a gap of two years due to COVID-19 restrictions, Qatargas employees, contractors and family members participated, with much enthusiasm, in a two-month-long blood donation drive held across the company’s premises in Doha, Ras Laffan and Al Khor.
This year, a record number of 366 persons donated blood during the campaign which was organised by the company’s Medical Department in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Employees, family members and contractors donated blood through HMC’s blood collection van stationed at Qatargas Doha headquarters, Al Khor Community Medical Centre, Qatargas Navigation Tower Offices, the North and South Qatargas Plants in Ras Laffan. The campaign started on March 23 at Al Khor and concluded on May 25 at the Qatar Navigation Tower. More than 25 healthcare staff from HMC and Qatargas Medical Services Department supported the drive.
Commenting on the unprecedented success of the campaign, Dr. Mohamad Hamad Al Naemi, Medical Services Manager, Qatargas, said: “Qatargas has been organising blood donation drives for the past 20 years, in cooperation with HMC. This initiative forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility and is aimed at engaging employees in a wide range of health awareness programmes and support local health organisations. These drives help save the lives of thousands of patients every year, as well as foster a greater culture of voluntary blood donation within society.”
In a separate event, the Medical Services Department at Qatargas organised a hand hygiene campaign on the occasion of the World Hand Hygiene Day. During the event, importance of hand hygiene for the safety of employees, their families and the wider community was highlighted.
