Doha: Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom, H E Yousef bin Ali Al Khater said that Qatar and the United Kingdom are eager to take economic relations to the next level and to intensify trade and investment.
Speaking at the webinar hosted by The Arab British Chamber of Commerce, the ambassador said there is huge potential for growth in the Qatar- UK economic partnership.
“Both countries are eager to take our economic relationship to the next level and to intensify trade and investment. Our cooperation must continue to all areas. We must be constantly and collectively receptive to any ideas and embrace the science and technology that will benefit future generations,” said Yousef bin Ali Al Khater. “As many of you know, Qatar has been at the forefront of investing in the UK which is in fact the single largest destination for Qatari investment. What I wish to stress the most today there is much more potential for the UK-Qatar economic partnership to grow, not only in London but across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland,” he added.
The Arab British Chamber of Commerce, in association with The Embassy of State of Qatar in London, organised Ambassadorial e-Roundtable for Qatar. The discussion was chaired by the Rt Hon Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, Chairman of the ABCC. Bandar Reda, Secretary General & CEO, Arab British Chamber of Commerce and Abdulla Al Ghanim, Commercial Attaché of Qatar in the UK.
Yousef bin Ali Al Khater affirmed that Brexit is considered as an opportunity for new bilateral and multilateral trade agreements between Qatar and the UK.
The relations between Qatar and UK continue to grow from strength to strength, and the bilateral partnership extends to many fields, especially in trade, investment, culture, education, energy and others. The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and the UK amounted to nearly $3bn in 2020, and the United Kingdom ranks as Qatar’s seventh largest trade partner. Qatar and UK traded QR14.06bn worth of goods in 2019.
Yousef bin Ali Al Khater said, “Qatar provides not only welcoming business environment but also cultural environment for investors. Expatriates, who make up two-third of our population, have the opportunity to experience a rich and varied cultural life in Qatar. Whether through visiting world renowned museum art galleries or enjoying the country’s rich hospitality, Qatar provides a safe and family friendly place to work and live-in.”
He said that the South Hook LNG terminal in Wales is a good example of some of the bilateral investments between Qatar and the UK providing an equivalent of one–fifth of the current UK natural gas demand.
