10 dead, 7 injured in vehicle collision in Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines: Ten people were killed and seven others were injured Wednesday when a passenger van and a cargo truck collided in the southern city of Davao.
Initial media reports said the van from Compostela Valley province overtook another vehicle and hit the truck at past 5 a.m. (2100GMT)
At least one radio report said nine of the fatalities, including the driver of the van, occurred at the scene. Another person was pronounced dead while being treated at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
Four of the victims are in critical condition while the driver of the truck suffered a bone fracture.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.
