DOHA: Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) yesterday hosted a public conference at the Museum of Islamic Art auditorium to celebrate International Museum Day.
It centred on ‘Museum collections make connections’, reminding the public that museums are living institutions that help create bonds between visitors, generations and cultures around the world.
Art collectors shared inspiration behind their collections and to connect with like-minded enthusiasts in the country.
Speakers included Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, CEO, Ghanim bin Saad Group, Dr Talib Al Baghdadi, historian and researcher specialised in Arab and Islamic heritage, art collectors Muna Salman Al Badr, Ahmad Salem Al Kuwari and Alwaleed Yousuf Jassim Al Darwish and monuments expert Mohammed Abdullah Sadiq.
“Building on our previously successful conferences, QMA is happy to again be holding an event in celebration of International Museum Day,” said Nasser Al Hammadi, Curator and Heritage Expert, National Museum of Qatar.
“By bringing together members of the community, QMA aims to involve everyone in Qatar’s arts scene, and give them a chance to reflect on how museums are an important means of cultural exchange and development of mutual understanding.” International Council of Museums established International Museum Day in 1977 to encourage awareness of the role of museums in the development of society. It focus on the importance of museums as a platform to spread and underscore knowledge, science and human heritage.
