Doha: Qatar is participating in the 4th Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022) and 8th Gulf Mathematical Olympiad (GMO 2022), in Saudi Arabia. Six countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Oman are participating in the competitions. The teams consist of four students for the Physics Olympiad and six students for the Math Olympiad.
These students were selected based on their previous participation in international competitions. They were also subjected to training camps under the supervision of the Science and Mathematics Departments in the Guidance Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Students received training in January and February under the supervision of local trainers from governmental schools as well as international trainers.
The Physics Olympiad (GPhO) exams are divided into two sections: Theoretical five hours and practical five hours, while the Math Olympiads are three and a half hours long. The exam consists of four questions covering algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinations. Each student can receive a medal based on his or her performance in all tests.
Qatar’s participation in these competitions is important for students for raising students’ scientific levels in physics and mathematics, discovering outstanding students in Physics and Mathematics, developing their abilities, refining their skills. The contests will also help in enriching their experiences and expanding the circle of interest and aspiration of the students, and enhancing the confidence in their abilities, to achieve honorable results at the Gulf and international levels.
