Doha: In response to the terrorist act committed against three American Muslim students in Chapel Hill in North Carolina last week, Qatar Foundation (QF) calls on the entire community to join a solidarity walk for the victims at Education City on Sunday.
The deaths of Deah Shaddy Barakat, wife Yusor Mohammad Abu Salha and her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha have shocked people around the world. The QF community has been particularly touched by the tragic events as the students’ academic pursuits and their charitable endeavours are reflected in QF’s mission to unlock human potential and promote education and community development in Qatar and beyond.
A collective effort led by QF and the community of students and faculty of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and QF’s partner universities will stand and walk together to condemn the act of terrorism and show solidarity and support to the victims’ families.
The walk will start from the entrance of HBKU Student Centre at 2.30pm. It will proceed in silence to Education City Ceremonial Court, where a minute of silence will be observed and students will say some remarks.
Participants should enter Education City from the court entrance on Al Luqta Street. Parking will be available in the court car park, a short walk from Student Centre.
In memory of the victims, the community is encouraged to donate to the charity fund, Syrian Dental Relief, started by Chapel Hill victim Deah Barakat in aid of Syrian refugees in Turkey, which can be found at http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/syrian-dental-relief/206249
