ISLAMABAD: Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan’s decision to own the latest Karachi blast has built enormous pressure on the government to review its decision of holding talks with the TTP which refuses to stop its terror spree and continues to challenge the state authority every other day.
The Taliban’s responsibility claim came a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told reporters in Ankara that the armed forces had extended support for the peace initiative.
He added that the Taliban had assured the government side of action against those who had committed acts of terrorism in recent days.
According to a senior member of the federal government’s four-member committee that is holding peace talks with the two-member Taliban-appointed committee, the nonstop terrorist activities by militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa coupled with the TTP spokesman’s blatant responsibility for the Karachi attack yesterday has already compelled the federal government to reassess its earlier decision of accepting the Taliban’s dialogue offer which now seems more like farce.
While requesting not to be named, the committee member said they had made it clear to the Taliban’s committee in the first round of talks that the TTP should stop all terrorist activities immediately.
