A famous Indian composer has revealed that he has reverted to Islam, adding that he is proud of the decision which got his family’s support.
“Yes, I follow Islam and I’m proud about it. Alhamdhulillah,” Yuvan Shankar Raja posted on Twitter, Times of India reported.
“My family supports my decision and there is no misunderstanding between me and my dad,” he said.
Several media reports have spread rumors about Raja’s reversion to Islam.
Yet, the news was only confirmed by the son of legendary music director Illayaraaja on Twitter.
A source close to him has revealed that Raja has reverted to Islam almost a year ago following the death of his mother.
“Yuvan was very attached to his mother and soon after she passed away, he started missing her a lot,” the source told Times of India.
“He also met a spiritual guru, but we cannot say what exactly made him follow Islam,” he added, maintaining that he was not inspired by fellow composer A R Rahman who had reverted to Islam.
Finding Islam, the famous composer started performing daily prayers.
“He has been doing namaz (prayers) five times a day all these months. He is not missing his prayers even when he is at work and ensures that he allots time for it at his studio as well,” said the source.
Yuvan, who confirmed on Twitter that he has reverted to Islam, has quit the popular social networking site reportedly after getting abused and receiving hate posts. Following the revelation, several fans and celebrities came in support of the 34-year-old music composer. Apparently, Yuvan had received some unwanted messages upon his decision to follow another religion.
Buzz is that the music composer was upset with the development and decided to de-activate twitter account, reported International Business Times. However the report said ‘the actual reason behind Yuvan’s decision to quit twitter is not known.’
“Yuvan has been following Islam for more than a year now and he broke the news to the family around eight months ago. I don’t think he’s going to change his name”, a source close to him said. Following Yuvan’s confession, his father Ilaiyaraaja and others from the family are expected to make a formal statement soon. Since it is his personal decision, family members respect it.”
Born on August 31, 1979, Yuvan is a singer-songwriter, film score and soundtrack composer, and occasional lyricist from Chennai, capital of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He has predominantly scored music for the Tamil films. Being the youngest son of noted composer Ilaiyaraaja, he began his musical career in 1996, at age 16. After initial struggle, he made his big break with a film soundtrack in 2001, and evolved as one of Tamil cinema’s most sought-after composers by the mid-2000s. Within a span of 15 years, Yuvan has worked on over 100 films. Considered a versatile composer, he often strives for different and innovative music. He has bagged several prestigious awards. Agencies
