Doha, Qatar: The sixth edition of the Katara International Amber Exhibition opened yesterday by the Director General of the Katara Cultural Village Foundation Professor Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, who also toured the exhibition with a number of ambassadors and officials.

The event, being held until January 16 in Hall 12 at Katara, involves the participation of 13 countries from around the world, represented by 82 pavilions.

The participating countries include Saudi Arabia, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Iraq, Syria, China, Turkiye, Lithuania, and hosts Qatar.

The 2026 Katara International Amber Exhibition is witnessing wide participation from elite exhibitors and experts in the field of amber from various countries, confirming its position as a leading annual platform that combines culture, heritage, and economy. The exhibition features a wide array of luxury products and artefacts crafted from rare amber.

This year’s exhibition comes in a distinctive format, with a great diversity of exhibits including antique Polish rosaries, rare handicrafts, and artefacts made from rare amber.

The exhibition also sheds light on the scientific and historical dimensions of amber, which is fossilised tree resin formed over millions of years and often contains preserved plant and insect inclusions. These natural formations offer valuable insights into ancient ecosystems and have long fascinated researchers, collectors, and museums worldwide.

Director of Events and Cultural Affairs at Katara and General Supervisor of the Exhibition, Khalid Abdulrahim Al-Sayed, affirmed that the Katara International Amber Exhibition has become a key destination for amber enthusiasts and those interested in its heritage and craftsmanship. This aligns with Katara’s mission to nurture human culture and celebrate its diversity. He expressed his pride in the prestigious reputation the exhibition has achieved and its growing popularity year after year, hoping that this edition will further strengthen its role as a bridge for cultural and economic exchange throughout the Middle East region.

Visitors to the exhibition can view a wide range of amber varieties, distinguished by their colours, clarity, and geographical origins, including pieces from different parts of the world.

In addition to their aesthetic value, the exhibits highlight the cultural significance of amber, which has been used for centuries in jewellery, religious objects, and traditional remedies in various civilisations.

The event also includes a selection of contemporary designs that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, illustrating how amber continues to inspire artists and designers. Several exhibitors are presenting exclusive collections created specifically for the Katara exhibition, adding to its uniqueness and international appeal.

Alongside the displays, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the processes of identifying authentic amber, the methods of polishing and crafting it, and the factors that determine its quality and market value.

This educational aspect, organisers noted, is intended to enrich the experience of the public and encourage a deeper appreciation of the material beyond its decorative use.

The Sixth Katara International Amber Exhibition is open to the public and is expected to attract a large number of visitors, including residents, tourists, collectors, and researchers.

Through this event, Katara continues to reinforce its role as a leading cultural destination in the region, offering a platform where heritage, art, and science intersect in a vibrant and engaging setting.
