Panel discussion on ‘Decarbonization Day’ held at Qatar’s COP 27 pavilion

Sharm el Sheikh: A panel discussion entitled “Decarbonization Day” was held yesterday at the State of Qatar Pavilion within the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention (COP 27) taking place in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.  

The discussion aimed at highlighting the ways to remove carbon as it is considered the main cause of the  global warming, as well as, to study the identification of prompt solutions to reduce its presence in the atmosphere.

The discussion included three main themes, where Dr. Dhabia Al Mohannadi and Dr. Patrick Linke, from Texas A&M University, Qatar, spoke on “New Methodologies to Help Decarbonize”.

The second theme, in which  Dr. Marcello Contestabile  and Adam Hawkes of Qatar Foundation, aimed at the importance of developing cost-effective decarbonization pathways in Qatar and the GCCs. The third theme of the session, titled “How to Avoid Carbon Mitigation and Offset” in Qatar during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, was by Dr. Talarssvr-Oglu of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.

During the session, there was also a discussion on policies and procedures on decarbonization and procedures in Kazakhstan, in which, the Director of the Department of Climate Policy and Green Technology of the Kazakh Ministry of Environment, Geology and Natural Resources, Ainur Kopbayeva delivered her notes.

The participants in the panel discussion reviewed potential technologies and solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere, stressing that Qatar has placed the issue of environmental protection and support for sustainable development at the forefront of its priorities, and has demonstrated its commitment in addressing the global environmental challenges.
