DOHA: Hamad bin Khalifa Hospital in Boutilimit observed Multi-Speciality Surgery Day for Mauritanians during the weekend.
Launched in the presence of the project manager, the mayor and the Governor of Boutilimit, the programme conducted 36 operations in general surgery, ENT, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology.
The patients were put under observation for varying periods of time, depending on the case and surgical intervention.
The hospital established temporary specialised clinics, which offered examination and consultation services to about 109 visitors.
The hospital was established in 2007 under the patronage of H E Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, formerly through Qatari-Mauritanian Social Development Foundation, and now through Education Above All.
It aims to provide high-quality healthcare at low prices affordable for patients so that they do not have to travel to Nouakchott or abroad for treatment.
The programme was welcomed by the Boutilimit community, who see how the hospital works hard to reach out to the poor. The local authorities also praised it for promoting healthcare for all.
