As Muslims around the globe celebrated Eid Al Adha, students and faculty at Qatar Academy worked together to bring the celebration in the classrooms and integrating it into lessons, helping students to broaden their knowledge of the Islamic faith and its practices and thereby contributing to their growth as internationally minded individuals.
Yasser Ibrahim, Islamic Studies Academic Coordinator in Senior School, relates that “Eid is a time where religion and traditions are celebrated and shared”.
In QA, emphasis is given on reflection, communal celebration and sharing. Arabic and Islamic Studies classes cover topics that are related to the sacred celebrations of Hajj and Eid Al Adha. To bring these lessons to life, Senior School students designed models of Makkah demonstrating the Hajj rituals which is similar to the Primary School activities that centre on making an image of Makkah and incorporating it into their learning environments so that they can practice Hajj without leaving their classrooms. To engage their teachers and parents, students also designed Eid cards which they then distributed to classrooms or brought home so that messages of goodwill will be passed along. Preparations are also well underway for the Eid Al Adha Suitcase, the decade-long community and service project where students collect basic necessities to be distributed to the less fortunate urban dwellers in Doha. A representative from Qatar Charity also visited the school to provide students with sheep donation coupons to enable them to extend help to those in need.
