Doha: Chad’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Moussa Faki yesterday praised the significant role being played by Qatar in achieving peace in the Darfur region of Sudan and its keenness to develop it.
In a statement, he said Qatar has played a leading role in achieving peace in Darfur, which was culminated into the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA).
He said the Doha Forum is a platform for dialogue to bring peace to Darfur and urged non-signatory armed movements to engage in the peace process.
“We are trying to contact these movements who have to understand that negotiation and dialogue are the way to achieve peace, development and stability and resolve the crisis” in Darfur, said Faki.
He welcomed those who want peace and are keen to join the Doha Agreement and said the Doha forum is the foundation for any peace process.
Faki said his country is member on the Follow-Up Committee of the Darfur Peace, headed by Qatar, and is working on total coordination and cooperation with Qatar and all concerned parties.
He also stressed that the border between Chad and Sudan has become safe and free of armed movements.
