Doha: Qatar Museums’ stunning exhibition featuring calligraphic artworks and prayer beads will be closing on Saturday June 17, 2017.
The exhibition, titled Contemporary Calligraphy – Mehmet Cebi Collection, is on show at the QM Gallery Al Riwaq, and showcases one of the finest collections of its kind, featuring more than 200 works, collected by renowned Turkish expert Mehmet Çebi.
Khalid Al-Ibrahim, Chief Strategic Planning Office at Qatar Museums said: “It’s been an honour showcasing an exhibition that brings together an exquisite selection of calligraphic artworks dating from the 1960’s to the present day. The exhibition perfectly reflects our appreciation for artistic expression in Islamic culture and history. I hope that the local community is able to witness these beautiful artworks before it’s too late.”

The exhibition focuses on two traditions, the first is an assortment of Hilye-i Şerif (The Noble Hilye), a form of classic calligraphic art. The second is a collection of tesbih (prayer beads), used for ruminative prayer.
The exhibition reflects the importance of Mehmet Çebi’s vision in developing the collection, which is to deepen understanding and appreciation for the art form around the world.
Mehmet Çebi is the founder of the world’s first Noble Hilya and Prayer Beads Museum in Suleymaniye-Istanbul, and has been developing his collection related to classical calligraphy and Noble Hilya with a contemporary approach since the 1990’s. His collections have been exhibited in more than 30 venues in Turkey and abroad.
