Some parts of Al Wakra Bypass Expressway and Al Wukair Bypass are set to open in June and July 2017 which will significantly contribute to enhancing the traffic flow for residents of Al Wakra and surrounding areas.
The Public Works Authority yesterday announced the opening of Phase I of Barwa – Al Mashaf Road development project on Tuesday.
The road connects Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf areas, and goes from Barwa Housing Roundabout up to the F-Ring Road and Doha.
Phase I of the project included the opening of Barwa – Al Mashaf Road in the direction from Al Wakra and Al Mashaf to the F-Ring Road, in addition to opening a newly built road with two lanes heading from the intersection north of Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout to just before the intersection of Barwa – Al Mashaf Road with Ras Bu Fentas Street. Also the lane turning right onto F-Ring Road was widened to cater for the traffic increase.
Phase I also included opening the other direction of Barwa- Al Mashaf Road heading from west of Barwa Housing to Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf areas.
The second phase of the project will include building a roundabout at the entrance of Barwa Village to facilitate entering and exiting Al Wakra. The road linking Al Wakra Club Roundabout with the beginning of the newly built road that connects to Barwa – Al Mashaf Road will also be widened to two lanes, in addition to widening the road linking Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout with the same point at the beginning of the newly built road, to include two lanes, as shown in the attached map. Works on this phase of the project will be completed end of May 2017.
Eng Mohamed Arqoub Al Khaldi, Head of Roads and Infrastructure for Areas in Doha South said: “The project aims to ease traffic flow in both directions between Al Wakra, Al Wukair, Al Mashaf and Doha. Barwa – Al Mashaf Road along with the other parts of the surrounding roads that opened or about to open to traffic, will form an alternative for Al Wakra Main Road, which reduces traffic congestion in the area and forms another entrance and exit to Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf areas."
Al Khaldi added that June and July of 2017 are expected to witness the opening of parts of Al Wakra Bypass Expressway and Al Wukair Bypass, which will significantly contribute to enhancing the traffic flow for residents of Al Wakra and surrounding areas, and will provide several options to go in and out of these areas.
