25 qualify for Katara Prize for Quran recitation

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, announced that 25 contestants in the semi-final qualifying stage have qualified for the Katara Prize for Quran recitation in its sixth session.

In this stage, the winners will compete for the top five positions, which will be broadcasted on Qatar TV, through which, five winners will reach the finals, and three winners will be ranked among the five leaderboards.

The 25 semi-finalists included four Iraqis: Ahmed Jamal Al Mansrawi, Osama Abdul Hamza Abdullah, Laith Rahim Baeiwi Al Hazami, Hussein Taher Shaker, and four Egyptians: Abdel Razek Ashraf Salah Al Shahawi, Mahmoud Ali Abdel Fattah Ibrahim, Mahmoud Al Sayed Abdullah Muhammad Atta, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Jazzar, four Moroccans, namely: Abdel Samad Malouk, Abdel Samad Al Mabrouki, Anas Ahmed Hamman, Ayoub Ola, three Syrians: Bassem Muhammad Aref Al Asali, Ahmed Safi Al Halabi, Khalil Muhammad Saeed Benshi, two Algerians: Ahmed Ben Amira, Yassin Baqawasa, and one contestant from each of the following countries qualified: Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Indonesia, Afghanistan, India and Tanzania.

The Katara Award Jury Committee for Quran recitation includes arbitrators known for their competence and experience in the field of intonation and quality of voice.

Sheikh Abd Al Rashid Sufi, holds the highest certificates in the ten readings, Sheikh Mahmoud Al Akkawi, holds high certificates in the readings.

The Committee also includes three members who specialise in sounds and shrines: Sheikh Bahloul Abu Arqoub is an expert and professor of Maqamat science, Professor Muhammad Assem Al Bunni, master of audio engineering, and an international arbitrator in international competitions for the Quran and religious chanting, Sheikh Muhammad Amin Mashali, who is licensed in the ten recitations and has several international arbitration posts.
