Doha: Al Rayyan defeated Police in four sets to successfully defend their Qatar Cup title at the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) Indoor Hall in Doha yesterday.

In the final, Rayyan proved to be too good for Police, winning 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17.

Qatar Cup Volleyball Championship final pitted the best two teams of the current season and Al Rayyan walked away with winners prize money of QR500,000  while the runners up got QR300,000

The triumph, their third over Police in five matches this season, also helped Rayyan snatch the bragging rights. Rayyan had defeated Police in the Super Cup as well as in the Arab Club Championships in Tunis. Rayyan were without their captain Mubarak Dahi Waleed but it didn’t matter much for the Lions who had roped in professional players Marko Vukosinovic and Kamil Rychlicki for the match.

In the semi-finals, Rayyan had defeated Al Arabi while Police quelled the challenge of Al Wakrah.

Both the teams had to go through the grind during the best-of-three semi-final series. Police and Al Rayyan won their first match but their rivals Al Wakrah and Al Arabi launched stirring comebacks to force the deciders by winning the second meeting. Police and Al Rayyan had to bring in their A game again and reached the final, after breaking the resistance of Al Wakrah and Al Arabi, respectively.
