Doha: El Jaish were crowned Qatar Handball League champions after they defeated  Al Gharafa 28-26 on Wednesday at Duhail Sports Hall.
The victory took their points tally to 13 and secure their fourth title regardless of the result of their last match against Al Rayyan tomorrow.
Al Gharafa remained sixth on six points and will have to win their last match against Lekhwiya if they were to secure fourth place and qualify for Qatar Cup that comprises the top four sides of the league.
The first half ended on equal terms 13-13 but El Jaish turned it in their favor in the second half to win the match and wrap up the league title.
In another match,  Lekhwiya managed their first win in the second stage of the league, beating Al Rayyan 29-20 to take their toll to six points and move up to fifth place, keeping their hopes of winning third place alive.
They must beat Al Gharafa in the final game though with Al Rayyan failing to beat El Jaish.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan remain third on eight points after being dealt a second defeat in a row.
Lekhwiya imposed their style throughout the match, ending the first half 16-10 before widening the gap in the second half as their players aimed to keep their chances in finishing third and participating in Qatar Cup.
Al Rayyan, on the other hand, didn't produce a performance good enough to justify a different outcome to the match.
