Doha: British newspaper The Daily Mail on Monday revealed that the UEFA – European football’s governing body– has given Qatari investors the greenlight for an expected bid to buy the Manchester United football club.

The Daily Mail report stated that both the British government and current owners of Manchester United are in favor of the bid.

The newspaper stated that pumping Qatari investments to build Old Trafford (the famous Manchester United stadium) and renovating the land surrounding it in Trafford will be a major government goal in raising the level of societal living, which is why the government is in favor of Qatar’s purchase bid for Manchester United.

The preliminary bidding for Manchester United will begin this week, and the Qatari investors' bid is set to face competition from British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.
