DOHA: Qatar said yesterday it is preparing a law on arbitration for civil and commercial disputes after the chairmanship of the board of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre, was handed to one of its citizens.
Abdulrahman Abdulghani now heads the board, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.
Minister of Justice H E Dr Hassan bin Lahdan Saqr Al Mohannadi yesterday met Abdulghani and his delegation.
The centre is seeking coordination with the Ministry of Justice. Its rulings are mandatory and complied with by all GCC states.
The meeting reviewed the centre’s report for 2014 and preparations (draft law) to issue an arbitration law in Qatar.
The proposed law will go a long way in improving business environment and bringing it on a par with international standards.
It has also been decided to coordinate efforts with Qatar Chamber, the representative body of the private sector, and register and train arbitrators. The Peninsula
