TAMUQ Dean and CEO elected IEEE fellow

Doha: Dr Mark H Weichold, Dean and CEO, Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), and Regents Professor of electrical engineering, has been elected a fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 
He was recognised “for contributions to international development of engineering education.”
An electrical engineer, Weichold has worked for General Dynamics’ Fort Worth Division, Motorola, Austin, and the US Army Electronic Technology and Devices Laboratory in Ft. Monmouth, N.J. 
His research interests include electron device fabrication process development, device design and characterisation. He has written over 80 journal articles, conference papers and scientific reports, and holds three US patents. He joined the electrical engineering faculty at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, in 1982, where he served as associate provost for undergraduate programmes and academic services, dean of undergraduate programmes, and associate provost for academic services. In 2009, he was named Regents Professor for his work and contributions to Texas A&M and the Texas A&M University System. In January 2007, he became Dean and CEO, TAMUQ.
During his tenure, enrolment has grown to over 550 students, including 40 graduate students in two master’s programmes. The faculty has increased to 81 and the research enterprise has grown to include 140 active projects. In 2009, its four undergraduate engineering programmes were accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The branch campus has produced over 500 graduates, many of whom have enrolled in top graduate schools around the world. The undergraduate student population is 53 percent Qataris and includes 38 percent female enrollees.
