Hong Kong---Hong Kong stocks ended 0.79 percent higher Tuesday as better-than-forecast Chinese trade data offset more losses on Wall Street and a further slide in the price of oil.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index added 189.51 points to 24,215.97 on turnover of HK$84.85 billion (US$10.95 billion).
In mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.19 percent, or 5.98 points, to 3,235.30 on turnover of 273.6 billion yuan ($44.1 billion).
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, gained 1.38 percent, or 19.81 points, to 1,452.37 on turnover of 186.3 billion yuan.
