KPMG, audit, tax and advisory firm, recently organised a three-day training session on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for Qtel’s internal audit team.
The IFRS training was tailored specifically for the telecom industry and to suit the requirements of Qtel internal audit team.
The training course was attended by all 11 members of the Qtel’s internal audit team and was run by Newton Deniese, Director, Audit and head of accounting advisory services practice, KPMG in Qatar, and his colleagues Aftab Gumani, Senior Manager, Audit, and Rabih El Sous, Senior Manager, Audit.
Mohammed El Emadi, Group Chief Audit Executive, Qtel, said that the three-day IFRS training provided by KPMG helped us build our knowledge of IFRS, which is essential for testing routine transactions and helping comprehend financial reporting issues.
“Awareness of industry specific IFRS, industry related complex accounting challenges and regular updates on IFRS are vital for the success of internal audit function in every organisation which follows IFRS framework and has in house internal audit function operating,” said Mohammed.
Gopal Balasubramaniam, Head of Audit, KPMG in Qatar, presented training completion certificates to all participants.
He said that it is vital that the internal audit and finance teams of various organisations hold such courses at regular intervals to strengthen their teams to deal with complex accounting transactions in house and maintain a high level of financial reporting.
