Doha:  Felix Sanchez yesterday announced a 31-man squad for the AFC Asian U-23 Championship, which will be held in Thailand from January 8 to 26 next year.

The 18-day event will be played to decide berths for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics football competition.

Qatar’s Olympic team qualified for the AFC U-23 Championship finals after leading the group in the qualifiers hosted by Doha.

In the event, Qatar drew with Oman 2-2 after beating Afghanistan 2-0 and crushing Nepal 5-0.

Qatar team topped the overall standings in Group A with seven points from three matches.

Qatar were ahead of Oman on goal difference and three points clear of Afghanistan. Nepal failed to bag any points.
