A new edition of Qatar Asian Junior U-14 Tournament begins today.

DOHA: A new edition of Qatar Asian Junior U-14 Tournament will begin today with players from different countries eyeing top honours at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

The tournament is being held in cooperation with the Asian Tennis Federation and will bring together 60 players vying for the title.

Qatar will be represented by Nasser Al Yafei, Rashed Nawaf, Abdulaziz Zainal, Meshaal Al Khenji, Amna Al Qaet and Sheikha Khalifa.

Khalid Al Khelaifi, Board Member of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation and Head National Teams Committee, said: “The Asian Junior Tennis Tournament comes in light of the federation’s strategy to organise a series of regional and international tournaments to help the national teams players reach new levels.”

Al Khelaifi stressed that the federation is keen to support the national teams players in all categories.

The Qatari players dominated the last two editions of the tournament held in April 2018 as Nawaf claimed the titles of singles events of both tournaments in addition to a doubles title while Al Yafei won the doubles titles of the two tournaments.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the QTSBF Junior Tennis Team Cup will be concluded at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex today.

The local tournament features the participation of a number of teams under 19, 12, 14, and 18 years including Qatar’s national teams, Lions and Qatar’s Tennis School.

The medal ceremony will be attended by the officials of the QTSBF.

Qatar national team (A) lead the standings of boys under 12 years with 4 points ahead Qatar national team (B) in the second place.

In boys under 10 years event, Qatar’s Tennis School lead the standing with 6 points while Qatar national tennis team (A) occupy the second place.
