Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received Generals, Public Prosecutors and Heads of Investigation Departments of the GCC states at the Emiri Diwan yesterday. The officials are in Doha to participate in their ninth meeting.

DOHA: GCC states yesterday agreed on a proposal for exchange of public prosecutors between the member countries.
A decision in this respect was taken at the ninth meeting of the  public prosecutors, attorney-generals and heads of public investigation bodies in the GCC states yesterday. Qatar’s Attorney General Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri chaired the meeting.
Dr Al Marri said that the GCC countries have approved a proposal on exchanging of prosecutors to make it possible for a Gulf prosecutor to serve in any of the member states.
He said that there is a specific mechanism for the work of Gulf prosecutors in any GCC country, under the framework of the Cooperation Council.
He  described the move as a major achievement, that would not have been possible without the support of the GCC leaders who approved a recommendation of the heads of investigation and prosecution bodies in the member states.
Al Marri said that under the directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies will be named after former Kuwaiti Attorney General Hamid Al Othman.
The award has been named “the Hamid Al Othman Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies”.
The Emir’s directives in this regard is a gracious gesture and a great honour. He added that the former Kuwaiti General Attorney Hamid Al Othman had a great impact in the field of legal work in the Gulf, adding that the Emir’s recognition is not only for Late Hamid Al Othman and his family, but also for all the law workers in the GCC States.
GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al Zayani hailed the Emir’s directives on naming the award after the former Kuwaiti Attorney General, explaining that the award was approved by the GCC Ministerial Council on the basis of the recommendation of the Public Prosecutors, Attorney-Generals and Heads of Public Investigation Bodies in the GCC countries.
