Doha: Qatar National Theatre on Doha Corniche has a new artwork installed by renowned German artist Isa Genzken.
Chairperson of Qatar Museums H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani revealed the artwork along with pictures of its installation on her social media handles.
The sculpture installed by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is called Two Orchids. Rife with ambiguities, the 'Two Orchids' sculpture depicts a powerful celebration of life while its perennial existence inevitably suggests our own mortality. It also reflects the fragility, elegance, and beauty commonly associated with the flower's image.
This is the second artwork by Isa Genzken to be unveiled in the country. The first one being Rose III that is located at M7 Msheireb. The artist is known to harvest, fuse and re-construct references from myriad sources, taking an anything-goes approach to the materials she uses to convey multiple meanings in unexpected ways.
