Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by Mosques Management Department, has inaugurated a new mosque with a capacity of 360 worshipers in Al Kheesa.

Hessa bint Abdullah bin Omar Al Fawzan Mosque has been built over an area of 3,039 square meters, annexed with Imam’s house.

The opening of the new mosque comes within the framework of the Ministry’s plan to expand the number of mosques and develop them in all regions of the country, and to keep pace with urban growth and population increase, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The new mosque includes a main prayer hall that can accommodate 300 worshipers, and a women’s prayer area that can accommodate 60 worshipers.

The mosque also includes an ablution area, in addition to large number of public car parks, a number of which are designated to serve people with special needs.

The Department of Engineering Affairs at the Ministry is concerned with providing the needs of the regions in the country for mosques, providing the regions with temporary mosques and supervising their preservation, preparing the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and imams’ residences, in coordination with the competent authorities.

In mosque designs, the Department takes into account the different areas of lands on which mosques will be built, the requirements for green buildings and sustainable buildings, stressing the conditions for sustainability in the use of electricity and water, and preserving the aesthetics of heritage in designs that reflect the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.

The ministry’s plans to build mosques also take into account the population density map, engineering and architectural specifications, and the heritage aspect.
