Al Rayyan Municipality tops in building permit issuance

DOHA: Al Rayyan Municipality has topped the country in terms of the number of building permits issued in May.

According to the monthly statistics, 148 permits were issued by Al Rayyan Municipality, constituting a 25 percent share in total permits issued in the country.

The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics yesterday released the monthly statistics of building permits issued by all municipalities.

Al Wakrah Municipality came second with the issuance of 143 permits, having a share of 24 percent, followed by Doha Municipality with 122 permits with a share of 20 percent while Al Da’ayen Municipality saw issuance of 76 permits with 13 percent. This data is of significant importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicated that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 52 percent (313 permits) of the total building permits issued in May, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 45 percent (268 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (16 permits).

Villas’ top the list of new residential buildings permits data, accounting for 54 percent (136 permits) , followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 38 percent (96 permits) and other residential buildings by 6 percent (14 permits).

Commercial buildings topped in non-residential buildings permits with 62 percent (39 permits), followed by industrial buildings eg. workshops and factories with 19 percent (12 permits), then governmental buildings and mosques with 10 percent (6 permits) each.

Comparing number of permits issued in May 2018 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 10percent.

This decrease was noted in the municipalities of Rayyan by 22 percent, Umm Slal (20 percent), Al Da’ayen (19 percent), Al Khor (9 percent). On the other hand, there was an increase in permits issued by the municipalities of Al Shamal by 22 percent , Al Sheehaniya (9 percent), Doha (1 percent).
