Doha: Qatar’s men’s 4×400 metres relay quartet punched their ticket to the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships with a national record run of 3:00.29 yesterday.
At the World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 25, Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba, Bassem Hemeida, Ashraf Hussen Osman and Ammar Ismail Yahia Ibrahim secured their spot in the prestigious Championships after finishing third, behind USA (2:58.68) and Australia (2:59.73) in the second qualifying round yesterday. The team had narrowly missed automatic qualification after finishing third in Saturday’s heats, but will now join the elite finalists at the September 13-21 event.
Qatar will line up against fellow finalists Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, China, France, Great Britain, Jamaica, Kenya, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa and the United States in the finals which promise a fiercely competitive showdown in the Japanese capital.
