Aden: An unidentified number of Yemeni army soldiers was killed or injured in an explosion that targeted a military checkpoint in the Yemeni eastern governorate of Hadhramaut.
Security sources at the governorate said a powerful explosion, believed to be caused by a car bomb, targeted a checkpoint of the coastguard forces near the sea port of Al Mukalla killing an unidentified number of soldiers, adding that security forces began investigation into the incident to uncover the identity of its perpetrators.
Commander of the first military area in Hadhramaut governorate Major General Abdurrahman Al Halili escaped yesterday an attempt on his life by a car bomb in Al Qutn area but a number of his escorts were killed.
Yemeni army forces managed during the past days, with the support of Arab Coalition, to purge a number of towns in Hadhramaut from Qaeda militants foremost of which was Al Mukalla, the capital of the governorate which had been under their control for more than a year.
