LAHORE: A large number of electricity workers staged a protest demonstration in Lahore on Tuesday outside Lesco Headquarters against the proposed privatisation of electricity distribution companies.

After hearing about talks between the Lesco administraton and a privatisation consultative team, the protesters reached Wahdat road and surrounded a guest house where the negotiations were taking place.

The demonstrators chanted slogans as they cut off the electricity to the guest house and staged a sit-in.

Negotiations between the Lesco administration and the privatisation team had to be called off without any conclusion as the officials fled the location.

The protesters, who have been demonstrating for two days, say they will not accept privatisation of the public utility company at any cost.
